We are grateful to all our funders, who help us to support our community through providing a secure space for people in which they can connect through art and creativity.
Big Local is a resident-led funding programme providing people in 150 areas in England with £1.15m each to spend across 10–15 years to create lasting change in their neighbourhoods. The programme is run by place-based funder Local Trust, who believe there is a need to put more power, resources and decision-making into the hands of local communities, to enable them to transform and improve their lives and the places they live. Whitley Bay is now entering the final phases of the grant and focusing on the legacy of the organisation, which is to create a sustainable hub for local people and a CIO to maintain activities and continue putting people in the lead of community activities in their areas.
Spirit of 2012’s Youth Advisory Panel are delighted to award £100,000 to fund Bay Create! This new project is delivered by Whitley Bay Big Local and Barnardo’s. Bay Create brings local residents from different generations together for arts and cultural projects inspired by the coastal landscape of Whitley Bay. The fund was designed and managed by Spirit of 2012’s expert panel of young people.
