Winter Heart 2021

A Winter Festival, 2nd -11th December 2021 celebrating Whitley Bay’s warm heart. A mix of live music, street theatre, installations and activities produced by Salto Arts Productions in partnership with North Tyneside Council, Creative Civic Change and the local community


It will be a  magical pop up treat of twinkling hearts, sing along songs, dancing lobsters, mischievous Raiju, a snow Queen trapped in a snow dome, kitch cookery 60’s style and a loud Spark finale all accompanied by the Winterlites dancers, live music a miniature sound system and of course St Nicholas himself.


Get creative and be part of the show! You don’t have to come to a workshop to take part but they are free and open to all. We would love to see the whole town with secret hearts displayed in windows this December.

Thursday, 2 December from 5pm-8pm: Winterlites in their Hi Viz frocks as they check out the late night shopping in Whitley Bay

Friday 3 December from 4pmWinter Heart St Nicholas parade from Whitley Bay Metro Station assembling at 4pm and setting off at 4.30pm. Join St Nicholas, the Winterlites, a giant Lambton Worm, The Spanish City Rollers community carnival band and more promenading along Station Road and Whitley Road to the Christmas tree where you can join in some familiar winter songs with Whitley Women.

Saturday 4th December from 4pm - 7pm: Par View The Snow Globe and miscievous  Raiju with Bradley Creswick on violinThursday 9th December 4pm - 7pm: Par View Back to the 60's withKitch Kafe und music from Ziad Jabero.

Friday 10th December 4pm - 7pm: Station Road "Lobster a la Carte" and the Baghdaddies Brass Band

Saturday 9th December 4pm - 7pm Town Centre Festival Propper Buzzin and the Sparks.

Sunday 12th December 4pm - 7pm: St Paul's Church St Nicolas throughout the Christmas period.


Free drop-in workshops with artists Sally Southern and Cath Hodson. Come along and make your own Winterheart window lights to add to the community heart or to take home and spark a shimmer of Winterheart windows in your street.Saturday, 27 November, 4th and 11th December 2021 from 13:00-15:00 at Whitley Bay Big Local, 158 Whitley Road.

We want the whole town to show its heart this winter 

Make a cut out window Winterheart and add it to the community window at Big Local or take it home for your own Winterheart window display.

Winter Heart windows is part of the Whitley Bay Big Local Creative Civic Change programme 

This is part of the Winterheart festival Supported by North Tyneside Council and the European Regional Development Fund Welcome Back Fund – action to support town centre recovery and the safe return to our high streets.
