Whitley Bay carnival to go ahead virtually in lockdown - with people dressing up indoors is in the Chronicle

... organisers have put together a "lockdown carnival" and are inviting people to join in on Saturday, May 23. Families are being urged to make their own costumes, put up decorations and tune in for live music, videos and otheractivities online.

"We are asking our regular carnival-goers to take the opportunity to spread the word far and wide and invite friends and family, wherever they may be, to join in.

“As we go live online at 12pm on Saturday, we are hoping that there will be whole flocks of ‘home birds’ dressed up and picnicking at home, tuning in to see the music live from living rooms and watch the lockdown videos from the bands who had been booked to play on stage.

"The ‘socially distanced disco’ will be touring the best dressed streets all afternoon with various costumed charactersincluding our usual carnival queen Violet Bloomers.
