Our community-led initiative creates an opportunity for all who live and work in the Whitley Bay Big Local area, whatever their age, culture, background, education or skills, to join together with the resources of the extended community and to work towards making the town a better place.

This work encourages the following four outcomes:
·         Communities will be better able to identify local needs and take action in response to them;
·         People will have increased skills and confidence so that they can continue to identify and respond to local needs in the future;
·         The community will make a difference to the needs it prioritises;
·         People will feel that their area is an even better place to live, work, and visit.

We were allocated monies from the National Lottery in 2012 to invest into a recognised pocket of deprivation within the greater, affluent area of Whitley Bay. Our project is funded until March 2022. To ensure the project continues beyond 2022, we have set up a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, and we are in the process of investing in a building for community use (the old Job Centre at 158 Whitley Road). This will provide a home for existing and new activities and provide a visible focus for the wider community we serve. Trustees are currently developing a plan to ensure that the organisation is financially stable in the long term.

As a resident-led project, the majority of trustees  reside in the Big Local area (see map). If you live in the area outlined in the map and  would like to help develop our Charitable Incorporated Organisation by joining the Partnership Board as a trustee you can get in touch using the contact form or complete the Application form
If you live outside this area, and would like to support Whitley Bay Big Local, we would still love to hear from you.

You can read the Charity Commission’s guidance about the requirements and expectations of Trustees here: http://www.gov.uk/guidance/charity-trustee-whats-involved
