Energy Community

Funded by Northern Powergrid
Community energy is all about people coming together, acting and using local resources to reduce, manage or generate their own energy.
A community energy project can involve anything from helping residents reduce energy costs to installing low carbon technologies such as solar panels, air source heat pumps, electric vehicle charging or storage batteries.
Community energy has huge potential to reduce our carbon emission and become a Net Zero community.
If you are interested in mobilising the strength and power of our community, please join the Whitley Bay Big Local Energy Community by getting in touch using the form below or come to our Energy Café in the Whitley Bay Big Local hub on the second Saturday each month from 10am to 1pm.

Norther Powergrid Community DSO Trial
Whitley Bay Big Local is a member of the Condor Consortium, which has been selected by Northern Powergrid for their first Community DSO (Distribution System Operation) trial. The trial will empower communities to have greater control over their energy and assets, while building more resilience and capacity. This will increase local energy independence and incentives for local decarbonisation, delivering cost and carbon savings.
The attached pdf-document contain an introduction to the trial.
