How we Help

Whitley Bay Big Local is a charity that aims to reduce loneliness, address financial exclusion and encourage action on global climate concerns

We provide regular activities that aim to achieve our outcomes such as:

  • A regular coffee morning each Thursday and Friday

  • A drop-in sewing group

  • Food pantry - take what you need, donate what you can. This volunteer supported project runs on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

  • Fix it cafe and bike workshops

  • Arts and crafts actvities in the hub

  • Parent support groups

  • Many more sessions run in partnership with other partners

Come and see us at The Hub

  • Support our work by having a coffee or a bite to eat

  • Get some information or advice

  • Join one of our groups or activities and meet new people

  • Volunteer with us

  • Let us know your ideas - what can we help you make happen?

  • Come and find out how you can take small steps towards sustainability at home

  • Hire a community space or meeting room - and help support out work at the same time

  • Working together, we will all make Whitley Bay a better place to live, work and visit.

Vision

Our vision is to make Whitley Bay an even better place to live. A place where people feel more connected to each other and to their town.

Mission

Using tried and tested community engagement practices, we will develop the skills, confidence and opportunity of local people to address identified needs and take action in response to them.  Working together with the local community we will help people to address loneliness, tackle financial exclusion and improve the local environment. To enable action we will provide space, information, advice, guidance and signposting from the new Whitley Bay Hub. Together we will improve the lives of local people and make Whitley Bay an even better place to live, work and visit.

Values

When visiting the Whitley Bay Hub, people will feel welcomed. We will listen to local people and respond with positivity to their suggestions, providing support where necessary to help local people. We will treat everyone with fairness and respect and provide information, advice, guidance and signposting to help people overcome issues in their lives. We will deliver on our commitment to make Whitley Bay an even better place to live, work and visit.
